Kathryn gifted me the Evil Eye earrings after her trip to Greece.
I looked up the meaning of wearing the evil eye as jewelry, and here is what I found: “The meaning of evil eye jewelry is that they are designed to protect the wearer from evil and ward off the evil that has been directed at them. Wearing any jewelry with the evil eye symbol gives the wearer power and protection against evil spirits or bad luck.” (Happy Jewelers).
However, the word Evil Eye still stuck with me, so I decided to watch a video to understand more. The video describes that the idea of the Evil Eye symbol, or Nazar Boncucu, originates around 7000-3000 BCE. It is believed that an envious glare, intentional or unintentional, can cause bad luck, misfortune, illness, and even death. However, the evil eye beads in the jewelry, tattoos, or decorations are meant to repel bad curses to protect the wearers.
