Warning – I am writing about today from the future and my memory is not that excellent, but all I remember is today was hot as hell in nyc.
KF and I started our morning with breakfast from M Star Cafe (19 Division St #1, New York, NY 10002). This is KF’s favorite place to get all his HK dishes and they have been in business for a very long time. I have never had any french toast that is more delicious in my life. Their lean prok + preserved egg porridge was exceptional. And I highly recommend the shrimp rice noodle with soy + peanut butter sauce. Here, KF also found out that today was the hottest day of the year, according to the Chinese calendar. That’s where the fun began.
Here are memorable things that I did today:
- Went on the ferry to Staten Island. The ferry is free and leaves every 30 minutes. I kept wondering the whole time what it feels like to live here but work in Manhattan, not to mention the Brooklyn side. Must be a crazy commute, too, in winter and thunderstorm times

- Outlet window shopping in Staten Island (St. George, Staten Island, New York City, U.S). They claim to be the first and only outlet mall in New York, so just something cool to visit! I enjoy shopping with KF, he is helpful, calm, and funny, so I feel very liberal shopping for what I need. This is a very rare feeling because I usually prefer to do my own shopping, so thank you to KF for being such a great company.
- Visited Staten Island botanical garden (1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301). Bad idea. Very hot and very empty. Also, there was only 1 set of bathrooms in the entire area in a faraway random building. So if you ever want to visit this place, I highly recommend going late afternoon when it’s less hot.

- Rode on Revel’s moped for the first time ever. Very fun experience and I would do it again, but maybe not by myself because NY traffic is kinda scary.
